FRANCONIA - Conservation officers with the N.H. Fish and Game Department released the name of a 65-year-old hiker who collapsed on the Franconia Ridge trail on Saturday as Maxim Raykin of Nashua.

The man was hiking with friends near the summit of Little Haystack Mountain when he collarpsed on the trail.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was carried from the exposed ridge by his companions down the Falling Waters Trail to escape the treacherous weather conditions.

An autopsy is planned for Sunday.

According to Fish and Game officials, Raykin was an experienced hiker who had completed this hike on many occasions. He was also prepared with the appropriate equipment given the weather conditions encountered.
