UPDATE: 'Hazardous device' requires bomb squad disposal, closes Broad Street in Nashua

NASHUA — Police announced via Twitter they were deploying their hazardous device unit to dispose of explosives near Exit 6 in Nashua at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Broad Street was closed off from Coliseum Avenue to Greenlay Street for the three to four hours as a result.

Police responded to a home on Broad Street, when a family of a recently deceased person called stating they found potentially dangerous materials in the home. When police arrived, they found what's described as several "hazardous items."

Out of an abundance of caution, the bomb squad used a water cannon to render the homemade device safe.

Family member tell police the person in question had been making materials like this for some time.

Police say the public was never in any danger. They would not comment on the person's death.
