UPDATE: Gas leak prompts road closure, evacuations in Merrimack

MERRIMACK- Emergency crews responded to the area of 10 Dobson Way just after 5:30 p.m. for a report of a gas leak. Once on scene, they determined there was the potential for a major threat to the area.

All of the stores in the shopping plaza were evacuated, including a nearby mobile home park. The leak originated at Convenient MD Urgent Care.

Camp Sargent Road and Sherwood Lane, two busy roads, were shut down to traffic for more than an hour while Liberty Utilities worked to get the gas turned off.

Firefighters say the leak was cause by a piece of machinery that fell and ruptured a gas line. It took crews over an hour to get the gas turned off because the valves were buried in deep snow.

Crews were able to get the situation under control no one was injured.

Liberty Utilities eventually got the leak repaired and turned the gas back on.

Firefighters say this could have been a very dangerous situation.
