UPDATE: Free the Nipple organizer cited for toplessness in Gilford

GILFORD - An organizer for Free the Nipple New Hampshire said she was cited for being topless at a Gilford beach on Sunday.

Heidi Lilley, who has led topless movements in Hampton and Laconia, told NH1 News that she received a citation for violating a town ordinance that bans toplessness on the beach.

Lilley said she received the citation following a verbal dispute with other women who were upset with her for being topless.

Earlier in the day, Lilley sat topless at Weirs Beach in Laconia - which also has a town ordinance.

But according to police, no fines were issued over the Labor Day weekend.

Organizers of Free the Nipple New Hampshire movement had put out a call to supporters encouraging them to visit Laconia over the holiday weekend to protest the city's ordinance that prohibits women from exposing their nipples, a rule that was adopted in response to Motorcycle Week some years ago.

But Laconia police Sgt. Gary Hubbard said on Sunday that police have not received any complaints about the women going topless.

"We've had no calls for it," he said, saying police would only respond if someone complained. "We're not going out looking for them."

Lilley said she plans on fighting the citation in court.
