UPDATE: Flames spread from exploding car, engulf Farmington building
The Associated Press
FARMINGTON— Fire officials say an exploding car was to blame for sparking a blaze that engulfed a nearby building housing the Farmington Masonic Hall.
Fire Chief James Reinert tells Foster's Daily Democrat the Farmington Fire Department received reports that a dark-colored Chevy Camaro exploded on Main Street at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
Reinert says the flames extended to the third floor of the building's exterior. Its first floor was empty. The building's second and third floors are home to the masonic hall.
Firefighters found no evidence that anyone was in either the car or building at the time of the blaze.
The building's interior sustained moderate smoke damage on each floor.
Reinert says an investigation is ongoing although officials believe the fire was caused by the exploding car.
