UPDATE: Fire officials discuss 6-alarm fire in Gonic

GONIC - Fire officials believe a six-alarm fire that took over three buildings Sunday afternoon started in an alley way between two of the buildings.

Deputy Fire Chief Tim Wilder said the fire broke out about 1:30 p.m. in an alley way next to 15 Main St. where Phagin's Restaurant is located. The fire quickly spread to both buildings. A third building at 19 Main St. where Renaissance Firearms is located also caught fire, but flames were not as extensive as the ones that consumed Phagin's, a neighborhood landmark restaurant. Wilder said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

No injuries were reported.

Between 80 to 100 firefighters from several different communities pulled together to battle this fire. Wilder said a specialized task force was brought in from the Lakes Region to help with the extensive overhaul of the building.

Wilder said those firefighters are exhausted after battling the flames in today's heat and an "exgtensive rehab" was set up at a local hospital to help firefighters dealing with exhaustion and dehydration.
