UPDATE: Family said Nashua woman never told them of 'GoFundMe' page before funds wiped

HUDSON - Krystal Gentley, 26, of Nashua, was arrested Friday for stealing $5,300 donated to help the family of Tabitha Fauteux with her funeral expenses. "Tabby," as her family calls her, and Gentley had been friends - even roommates for a time.

“I don’t know but happened. They both went their separate ways but they always connected,” said Sheila Fauteux, Tabby's mother.

Tabby had a big personality and her mother described her as witty and smart.

“The one that could put a smile on everybody’s face the one who could … there’s nothing that girl couldn’t do or try to conquer and she did,” said Shelia Fauteux.

But Tabby had a history with drugs, first becoming addicted to pain medication which led to heroin. After telling her parents, she went to rehab and became sober for 18 months. Last year, she was training at a rehab facility in California when her family received a phone call.

“Something happened," said Shelia. "She got into heroin and she died."

When Tabby died, Gentley opened an online donation account with gofundme.com, but never told her family. They found out through social media.

“If it were me," said Tabby's younger sister MaKenzie. "I would have been like did 'you guys want me to make an account?' but Krystal never did that.”

Gentley was supposed to go to Tabby's Celebration of life, but never showed up.

“So that’s when it gave me a funny feeling and I told my husband something is not right” said Shelia Fauteux.

The Fauteux family continued to reach out to Gentley but she kept making excuses. After months, Shelia Fauteux found out Gentley had opened the account three times and had taken the money for herself.

“Sad, mad, it wasn't about the money, it was about you using our daughter for your benefit,” said Shelia Fauteux.

Gentley stole about $5,300 will be arraigned in the 9th Circuit District Division Nashua Court on May 17.
