UPDATE: Family, friends of Derry NH shooting victim ID him as 17-year-old from Mass.
DERRY - The person killed in a Derry shooting Wednesday night has been identified by family and friends as a teen from Massachusetts.
Cole Kinney, 17 of Lowell, was the victim, according to friends on scene. His sister has also started a GoFundMe page to help with the teen's burial.
"The amount of pain and suffering my family is going through at this time is unbearable," Tayla Leigh Kinney wrote on the page. "I can't even express the love we have gotten so far. Seeing all the friends my sweet baby brother had and all the people that love him, fills a space that is empty."
According to his sister, his 18th birthday was in September. She also said he "loved boxing, sports and most of all FAMILY."
Assistant Attorney General Geoffrey Ward told NH1 News this morning that the shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday and that they are still actively investigating but that the public has no reason to be concerned for their safety. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
The shooting happened on North Shore Road near the intersection with Island Pond Road.
According to a Facebook page for Derry residents, several neighbors report hearing shots around midnight.
NH1 News is on the scene and will continue to update the story as more details become available.
