NORTH HAMPTON - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the small plane crash near the Hampton Airfield.
"Local authorities told the FAA that a Piper PA-28 aircraft crashed in a wooded area about a quarter mile from Hampton Airfield at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday," said Kathleen Bergen, of the FAA.
Several people were taken away by ambulance.
She did not know the number of people on board or their condition but said the FAA was investigating the crash. State police were gathered in a wooded area off Cedar Road and had closed Cedar Road by the airport.
A neighbor of the airport said she heard a plane hit the trees - then saw fire. She said the plane engine "sputtered."
NH1's Tyler Dumont continues to report from the scene as more details become available.
