UPDATE: Epping manhunt ends, suspect scheduled for psychological evaluation

EPPING - It took 12 hours, but police nabbed the suspect of a manhunt that took all morning.

Police said they were called to an Old Nottingham Road in Epping home for a 911 domestic dispute call. Then gunshots could be heard, and it turned into a town-wide manhunt for suspect and registered sex offender Christopher Lemear - now in police custody.

“It was a little intense, you wouldn’t expect a full out manhunt to take place in your front yard,” said Cotey Dow of Epping.

Dow told NH1 News he saw the whole thing happen. Lemear was arrested at the intersection right outside his Epping home.

“It was pretty intense, I mean you expect to see somebody run or just hunker down and hope for the best,” said Cotey.

Police said the 911 call came after a domestic dispute quickly escalated on Monday night.

“She thought she heard a couple of gun shots, and that was about midnight,” said one neighbor, Robert Baillargeon.

No one was injured, but the shots were fired from inside Lemear’s home. He was home with two other people but then took off on foot.

An intense manhunt ensued through the night and well into Tuesday afternoon with the neighborhood on edge.

“Then this morning at about 6:30 if we were hearing that the bus wouldn't come, and we had to drive our kids to school,” said mom and neighbor Jennifer Farris.

The schools in the area were not on lockdown, but staff and officials at the school were made aware of the manhunt in progress.

“It’s more safety-wise at least for the children, that’s all I care about,” said Marge Daggett.

Lemear is a registered sex offender was convicted of burglary and felonious sex assault back in 2009. He was arrested with a loaded weapon on him and was immediately taken into police custody.

Lemear was taken to have a psychological evaluation and then it will be determined when he will be arraigned.

Aside from reckless conduct and a felon in possession of a weapon, Epping Police told NH1 News other charges could also be pending.
