BERWICK, Maine — A Dover man is accused of causing a scare for a group of female housemates in Berwick, Maine.
The man is being charged with burglary, theft, and was in violation of his release. However, it’s not the crimes - but what he did in the house - that has the women scratching their heads.
The group of housemates came home to their quiet residence to find their horses out of their pen and knew something was wrong.
“He was taking frozen things out, and I don’t know, he made a sandwich for himself,” said one of the housemates who did not want to be identified.
“He apparently made himself at home," said Tristan Brown, another burglary victim. "He, like, took his clothes off in the basement.”
The burglar they are referring to is 53-year-old Todd LeGrand.
Berwick Police eventually caught up with LeGrand running through the woods with female sweatpants on.
LeGrand was arraigned on Friday and held without bail. He is awaiting a psychological evaluation, but for everyone involved, LeGrand will be hard to forget.
“He had taken my conditioner from my shower and showered in the other unit,” said the victim who eventually found LeGrand in her apartment and called police.
He also helped himself to a few beverages.
“Looked like he had a few beers to drink,” said Detective Ronald Lund of Berwick Police.
But he also did chores?
“He fed my dog and took my dog out. He bathed the horses,” one of the victims said.
“The wheelbarrow was out and I was like ‘why is my wheelbarrow out?’ I went in the stalls and I realized he cleaned my stalls - yes, he shoveled horse poop,” said Brown.
LeGrand is now behind bars but the housemates will never forget the chaos he caused.
“He better hope he never sees me again because I’d be like, ‘yo you have to leave,’” said Brown.
“It’s just freaky that someone could be in your house where people think it’s safe,” said the other victim.
