UPDATE: Contaminated water kills 23 ducks in Penacook


In Penacook environmental officials are investigating after nearly two dozen ducks were found dead in a contaminated waterway this weekend. The State's Fish & Game Department of Environmental Services

The State's Fish and Game Department along with the Department of Environmental Services is looking at two areas near Alice Drive. Officials say the substance appears to be similar to motor oil. They have collected They have collected samples but won't get the results back for two weeks. If oil was dumped in the waterway charges could be filed.

"It's an illegal discharge of oill to surface waters in the state. And part of the investigation will be to determine if there will be fines and who the responsible part is and also to what charges if any to file," said Tim Drew with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.

Officials stress there is no threat to the public.
