UPDATE: 66-year-old man drowns in Alton while on fishing trip
ALTON — The body of a man who was fishing from a canoe on Gilman Pond in Alton has been recovered.
A 66-year-old man from Malden, Mass., fell overboard shortly before 11 a.m. and did not come back out of the water.
His friend, a 67-year-old, of Portsmouth, called in the accident. Divers located the body at about 6 p.m.
Members of Alton Fire, Wolfeboro Fire, Tuftonboro Fire, Ossipee Corner Fire, West Ossipee Fire, Alton Police and Marine Patrol responded along with NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim pending notification of his family.
