Union representing NH bus drivers authorize strike, will hold off until DC meeting

The union representing New Hampshire school bus drivers and other workers employed by First Student confirmed they are authorizing a strike, but still hope to reach a deal.

The decision came after the union rejected First Student’s latest contract offer, creating uncertainty for several school districts in New Hampshire that rely on First Student for transportation, The Union Leader reports.

The union, which represents 850 First Student employees, agreed to hold off on the strike until both sides meet in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. No timeline has been set for the strike.

If the strike does happen, it will directly affect schools across the state. Some of those schools are in Canterbury, Alton, Gilford, Laconia, and Belmont.

Close to 14,000 students attend the Shaker-district schools in Belmont. Eighty-five percent of those students will be affected by the strike.
