UNH will use backup plan against Dartmouth


Franklin Pierce vs. Army

When and where: Friday (7 p.m.) at Shea Stadium, West Point, N.Y.

Team records: Franklin Pierce in 0-1; Army is 1-0.

Noteworthy: Franklin Pierce opened its season with a 28-7 loss to Cornell. The Ravens surrendered eight sacks in the loss and turned the ball over three times. ... Army began its season by beating Post 31-18. Army linebacker Buddy Craft made seven tackles (one sack), forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles against Post. He was named the CSFL Defensive Player of the Week. ... Franklin Pierce quarterback Jose Melo completed 13 of 27 passes for 151 yards and a TD last week. Andrew Jean had four catches for 64 yards, including a 27-yard TD catch.

Saint Anselm vs. Pace

When and where: Saturday (1 p.m.) at Grappone Stadium, Manchester.

Team records: Saint Anselm is 3-0 overall (2-0 Northeast-10); Pace is 0-3 overall (0-2 Northeast-10).

Noteworthy: A victory Saturday would give the Hawks their best start to a season in the program's history. ... St. Anselm quarterback Yianni Gavalas completed 37 of 49 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns last Saturday's 38-34 triumph over Bentley. He also ran for two touchdowns in that game. ... St. Anselm wide receiver Justin Bernard caught 12 passes for 117 yards against Bentley and now has 312 career receptions -- the most of any active player in any division. Bernard needs 14 receptions to become the NCAA Division II career leader in that category. ... St. Anselm has a 10-6 edge in its series with Pace, which has been outscored 164-49 in its three games.

Plymouth State vs. UMass-Dartmouth

When and where: Saturday (1 p.m.) at Currier Field, Plymouth.

Team records: Plymouth State is 1-2 overall (0-1 MASCAC); UMass-Dartmouth is 1-2 overall (0-1 MASCAC).

Noteworthy: Each team is seeking its first MASCAC victory.opener for each team. ... Plymouth State was held to 89 yards of offense during its loss to Western Connecticut last week. ... Plymouth State's Rob Giles leads the league in fields goals (three) and is fourth in scoring (4.7 points per game). ... Linebacker Kyle Wilson of Dover leads the Panthers in tackles (18). He also had two sackes. ... Senior Mark Hennessy leads the Plymouth State running game, averaging 84.7 yards per game.

UNH vs. Dartmouth

When and where: Saturday (6 p.m.) at Cowell Stadium, Durham.

Team records: UNH is 2-1 overall (1-0 CAA); Dartmouth is 1-0 overall (0-0 Ivy League).

Noteworthy: This will be the first meeting between these programs since 2009, and the spotlight will be on the quarterbacks. ... Sean Goldrich, UNH's No. 1 QB, will not play in this game because of a sprained knee. Bedford's Andy Vailas will start behind center. Vailas, who played at Bishop Guertin, has completed 7 of 11 pass attempts for 82 yards in UNH's three games this season. He's also carried the ball 12 times for 72 yards, and accounted for three two-point conversions (two rushing, one passing). ... Dartmouth QB Dalyn Williams was named the Ivy League's Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday night's 35-25 victory of Central Connecticut State. Williams, a junior, passed for three touchdowns and ran for another in that game. ... UNH has won its last 12 games against Dartmouth, and leads the series 18-17-2. ... This is the first scheduled night game at UNH.
