UNH to host 2016 regional underwater robotics competition
DURHAM - The University of New Hampshire is hosting the 2016 Seacoast SeaPerch Regional Competition, an underwater robotics event where almost 200 K-12 students from all over New England will compete.
The event will take place Saturday at the Swasey Indoor Pool in the UNH Field House, and the public is free to attend. Students from schools across New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts will be attending.
The competition encourages elementary, middle and high school students to build an underwater ROV - a remote operated vehicle, from a common kit of parts. Each team will then compete in two separate events.
The program provides students with an opportunity to learn about ocean engineering and robotics, as well as introduces them to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to end around 4 p.m.
