UNH students and alumni celebrate Homecoming Day

DURHAM - Cowell Stadium sold out quick as the demand for tickets ran at an all-time high for Saturday's home opener game against Elon University at the University of New Hampshire.

The homecoming event attracted thousands of students and alumni from around the country to celebrate and cheer on their home team. Music, tailgating and laughter filled the fields throughout the day while law enforcement from campus and surrounding towns kept a close watch on the big crowds.

UNH junior Drew Lalli, shared with NH1 News that homecoming was like Christmas. "If I could have the dream, it would be UNH homecoming every weekend," he said.

Dave Houle, a 1976 UNH graduate, was excited to be tailgating with his friends and family at the event for over 30 years. "Everybody comes here; it's the center of activity. It is probably the nicest people you want to see on a Saturday afternoon or any day for that matter."

The Wildcats ended the game with a win, beating Elon 37-14. The team's next scheduled game takes place at William and Mary on Oct. 17.
