UNH student and former Miss New Hampshire, Megan Cooley explains where she's at now

DURHAM - Megan Cooley is well on her way to pursuing her passion of medicine, thanks to being titled Miss New Hampshire and receiving a $35,000 scholarship to help her jump-start her career.

Cooley was crowned Miss New Hampshire on the night of May 3, 2014, and it was the moments that happened away from the stage that impacted her the most.

Hundreds of appearances, fundraisers and personal engagements all helped expose Cooley to new things all over the of the state.

"I used to get nervous talking with adults compared to my peers," Cooley said. "It doesn't scare me at all and that's been a huge benefit in my professional life an college career."

Cooley is now 21 years old and works as a resident assistant at the University of New Hampshire. As former Miss New Hampshire she'll be applying to medical school this fall with plans to become a pediatric oncologist.

"I've become very passionate about access to healthcare as a human," said Cooley. "I really think it's important to bring this to the people that need it."
