UNH receives more freshman applications than ever this year

DURHAM - The University of New Hampshire is celebrating the fact that it received more freshman applications this year than ever before.

For the fall semester of 2016, more than 20,000 students applied for admission to the state university.

University officials credit the high visibility from the New Hampshire first-in-the-nation primary debate for shining a national spotlight on the campus.

The Wildcats hockey and football teams are growing in popularity according to Victoria Dutcher, VP of Admissions Management for UNH.

“We’re very excited about the stadium and the new construction,” said Dutcher.

There is a lot of construction going on at UNH. The liberal arts building is expanding, along with the science facilities, and the Alumni Center.

Private giving has risen nearly 250 percent in the last five years, and they’re getting ready to launch their largest fundraising campaign ever.

“As UNH becomes more competitive, we want to make sure we are getting the best and the brightest of New Hampshire students at the university,” said Dutcher
