UNH offers orientation for veterans, service members

The Associated Press

DURHAM — The University of New Hampshire is giving a special welcome to incoming students who are veterans or members of the military.

The university used a state grant to create a two-day orientation program specifically for military member and veterans. The goal is to get those students connected to academic resources on campus as quickly as possible, and give them an opportunity to meet each other and socialize.

Officials say arriving on a college campus with lots of options can be overwhelming for those used to a military environment where everything is prescribed and there are few choices.

There are 45 veterans starting at UNH this fall, and more than half of them attended the orientation program held Aug. 26-27.
