DURHAM (AP) — University of New Hampshire officials say the college received a record number of applications this year — about 2,000 more than last year.
Foster's Daily Democrat quotes college officials as saying they received more than 19,000 applications and chose 3,280 first-year students — a slight increase from last year.
Classes begin Monday.
Erika Mantz — director of media relations for the school — said about 1,200 of the first-year students are from New Hampshire and 2,200 come from other states and 20 different countries.
The majority of the incoming students — about 650 — are liberal arts majors. The average high school grade point average of the new students is 3.4, Mantz said.
