Ukraine bans Russian media outlets from official events

The Associated Press

MOSCOW (AP) Russian news agency Tass says that Russian media outlets are no longer granted access to official events in Ukraine.

Tass quoted an unidentified Ukrainian foreign ministry official as saying, "from this week we no longer accredit Russian media."

On Feb. 12, Ukraine's parliament voted to ban accreditation for Russian media outlets in the country. Last week, Ukraine's Security Service said it had drawn up a list of about a hundred Russian news organizations that would be banned, but that list has not been released publicly.

Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia's state-controlled media of stirring up animosity toward Ukraine and of falsely portraying the conflict in the country's east, where Russia-backed separatists have been fighting Ukrainian troops since April.
