Uber driver's felony charge for wiretapping reduced to a misdemeanor

PORTSMOUTH — Uber driver, Christopher David, was arrested and charged after he got caught wiretapping a Portsmouth bar bouncer in November.

Police have reduced his charge from a felony to misdemeanor, according to SeacoastOnline.

David, 29, audio- recorded a Portsmouth bar bouncer without the person knowing or with permission.

Police spokesman Frank Warchol explained that the case was studied and "allegations did not fit under the felony classification as originally charged."

With this change David's potential maximum sentence will be brought down to one year in county jail, as opposed to the three to five years he could have served had the crime remained a felony.
