Two people chase suspect accused of stealing a woman's purse in Rochester
ROCHESTER - Two passers-by gave chase to a suspect who stole a woman's purse in the parking lot outside People's United Bank at 110 South Main Street on Thursday afternoon.
Police say they initially thought the 911 call around 3 p.m. was for a bank robbery but later learned a male suspect had made off with a woman's purse outside the bank.
The suspect reportedly ran into the AutoZone at 122 South Main Street as he tried to elude the people who were chasing him. When police arrived, they were able to take him into custody after the suspect was detained by a store employee.
The suspect, Ryan Tiberio, 22, of 9 Western Ave., in Rochester, was charged with robbery. Police also discovered two bench warrants for Tiberio at the time of his arrest.
Tiberio refused bail and is being held at the Stafford County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned by video on Friday in Rochester District Court.
