Two motorcyclists injured in Salem crash

SALEM - A father and son on two motorcycles were injured Friday night after one of them collided with a pick-up truck on Lawrence Road near the Mary Queen of Peace Church.

Police say Thomas Beaulieu, the father, crossed the center line coming around a curve on Lawrence Road around 9 p.m., hitting the pick-up truck coming in the opposite direction. His son, Ghislain Dumont, was riding behind and laid the bike down as he tried to avoid the crash ahead of him. Both men suffered leg injuries, police said. James Manning, the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

Beaulieu and Dumont were taken to Lawrence General Hospital, and Beaulieu was subsequently flown by helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital in Massachusetts.

The accident remains under investigation. Police say speed and alcohol may have been factors in the collision.
