Two more police dogs get vests from charity

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Two more Maine state police dogs will be outfitted with protective vests due to charity efforts.

State police say police dogs Champ and Merry will get the vests, which protect against bullet and stab wounds.

Vested Interest in K9s of Taunton, Massachusetts, VPI Pet Insurance of Brea, California and Madeline Hamersley of Sorrento, Maine are providing the vests. Police say Champ is the thirteenth dog to receive a vest from Hamersley's donations.

Champ and his handler patrol York County while Merry and his handler patrol Aroostook County. State police equip all of their patrol canines with vests.
