Two men rescued after their car rolls into Merrimack River

HOOKSETT - Boaters enjoying Easter on the Merrimack River were the first to alert emergency responders after they found a car that had rolled into the river on Sunday.

The two men, reportedly in their mid-20s, were trapped inside the car, which was submerged in a couple feet of water at the edge of the river near Route 3A, and had been there for about two hours.

Firefighters helped extricate the men who were taken to Manchester hospitals to be treated for hypothermia and non life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters said the pair were lucky that the accident happened during the day. Had they spun out and landed in the water at night, the outcome could have been much different.

Investigators do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor, and say the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
