BOSTON- Several motions filed by the defense were discussed in federal court in Boston Wednesday.
Lawyers for Dzhokar Tsarnaev are urging the judge to order the prosecution to turn over any information or evidence they may have that links Dzhokar's older brother Tamerlan to a 2011 triple murder in Waltham. They say that information could be relevant to this case. They say it could prove Tamerlan coerced Dzhokar into allegedly participating in the Marathon bombing. The judge made no ruling.
The defense also wanted a hearing scheduled to talk about possible media leaks. The judge also did not make any decisions on whether or not there would be a hearing.
The trial is still slated to begin here on January 5th for jury selection. A final pretrial conference will happen on December 18th. Defendant Dzhokar Tsarnaev will be present for that pretrial conference. It will be his first appearance in court since his initial arraignment back in July 2013.
