Truck forces construction plate through road, hits gas line
PORTSMOUTH - A main underground gas line was hit when a construction plate fell through a road hole in a Portsmouth neighborhood.
The plate was shifted when a Knowles Tree Service truck drove over it while entering a driveway at 82 Willard Avenue.
The truck's rear-left tire then pushed the construction plate through the hole.
The edge of the plate "nicked" a main 8" gas line, according to Portsmouth Fire Dept. Capt. Rick Murphy.
A wrecker was called in to lift up the tree service truck, and the plate was repositioned so the truck could exit the driveway.
The homeowner was asked to temporarily evacuate her home while firefighters and Unitil crews ensured the gas line was repaired.
