Trial date set for woman charged in slaying of ex's partner

The Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A judge has set a trial date for a Massachusetts woman charged with fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend's new love interest.

Christen Longley's murder trial is scheduled to start Feb. 28 in Hamden Superior Court.

Prosecutors say the 31-year-old Longley stabbed Jennifer Best in the neck on Nov. 27 during a struggle at a West Springfield apartment.

Police say Longley wrote a letter to her ex-boyfriend two days before the stabbing that said, "She took my life so I take hers."

Longley has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

She has said she blacked out while fighting Best and does not recall stabbing her. She also says Best had threatened her.
