Trial begins for NH man accused of trying to have wife killed in Maine

LONDONDERRY - The trial of a man accused of trying to kill his wife in Saco, Maine is underway.

Prosecutors say Gregory Owens staged a break-in at the home where his wife Rachel Owens was staying.

A woman who lives in the home took the stand on Tuesday.

The Portland Press Herald said Carol Chabot testified about the home invasion, saying she fled to an upstairs office in the home.

She described how the masked intruder with a gun went to the bedroom where Rachel Owens was staying.

Her husband Steve Chabot faced the intruder, who fired off three shots. Chabot was hit in the arm, side and shoulder. He called 9-1-1 after crawling into a bedroom. He and Rachel Owens survived the shooting.

Gregory Owens has denied the charges, saying he was home in New Hampshire at the time of the shootings.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
