Tractor trailer driver tries to avoid deer, jackknifes on I-89 in Enfield

ENFIELD - A deer is blamed for a crash that caused a tractor trailer to jackknife and go into the guardrails on Interstate 89 early Thursday morning.

According to police, Russell McAdams, 35, of Brockton, Mass. swerved to avoid a deer near the exit 15 northbound off-ramp around 3 a.m.. His truck then hit the guardrails on the right side of the road, jackknifed and veered across the highway, coming to rest against the guardrails on the left side of the road.

McAdams was not injured and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, however, 35 gallons of diesel spilled from a ruptured fuel tank. The Lebanon Fire Department, state Department of Transportation and the state Department of Environmental Services contained and cleaned up after the spill.

The truck had been hauling pharmaceutical products from Massachusetts to Lebanon.

The investigation into the crash continues and police say anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Tony Pratt at 271-1162.
