Tipped trailer shuts down I-95 on-ramp

PORTSMOUTH - A tipped trailer closed a highway on-ramp for hours on the Seacoast on Friday afternoon.

State police say a pile-driving hammer was not properly secured to a trailer being towed by David Adams, 51, of Eddington, Maine.

The construction equipment was not secured by enough safety chains and broke loose when the driver turned onto the Interstate 95 northbound on-ramp in Portsmouth at Exit 7, State Police said.

Nobody was injured – but the ramp was closed for more than three hours.

The tractor trailer and equipment are owned by Cianbro Equipment of Pittsfield, Maine.

Police have issued a citation for failing to properly secure the equipment.
