Thousands turn out for 5th annual Maloney Unity Run/Walk
GREENLAND - Thousands of runners and walker came out Sunday to honor and remember fallen police Chief Michael Maloney.
The fifth annual 6.2-mile Unity Run was held Sunday. The event brings in about $25,000 to be used for projects, education, and outreach for first responders in the Seacoast area.
"He was such a figure in this town, every morning he would drive through, stop at the bus stop and say hi to the kids," said Greenland Police Lt. Dawn Sawyer of the Greenland.
Maloney was shot and killed in the line of duty trying to execute a search warrant in Greenland. The officers were met with gunfire and four sustained gunshot wounds. As the officers retreated, Maloney ran in and pulled critically wounded officers to the safety of a patrol car. Maloney was then shot and killed.
