Thousands of students move in to their dorms at UNH

DURHAM - The population in Durham just grew as thousands of students moved in at the University of New Hampshire.

Freshman had a head start Friday, and upperclassmen all across campus made the move Sunday. Unloading cars and packing bins with their essentials was the easy part.

"The elevators, like they take a long time" said Eric Schliemann who is going into his sophomore year.

Students gearing back up for school said they're excited to start a healthier life-style.

"Mostly lose weight, cause I've gained about fifty pounds since I started to go to school," said Chris Hallee a senior majoring in microbiology.

Students aren't the only ones excited about being back on campus, local businesses are ready for the increase in foot-traffic.

"Move-in-day is crazy, we've been playing catch-up the last couple of days," said Jordan Petrivitsis who is co-owner of Durham House of Pizza (DHOP)

DHOP is one of several businesses downtown that relies on students. Petrivitsis said the school year brings in most of their sales with Homecoming weekend being the busiest.

"It's exponentially busier during the school year than in the summer," said Petrivitsis.

With a brand new stadium, pool, and gym to open soon students look forward to a fresh start.

"I'm gonna try and get some lab work experience so I'm kinda looking forward to just working with professors in the lab" said Griffin Parodi who is a sophomore.
