Thousands expected to visit Meredith for annual ice fishing derby
MEREDITH - The 36th annual Great Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby is underway in Meredith Bay.
The event - which draws thousands of people each year - started on Friday.
It is the largest fishing derby in the state of New Hampshire.
"We were hoping to get a big one but we got a couple small ones - but hey, it's all good - another day tomorrow and we'll see what we can do," said Darlene Jette, who was on the ice with her family.
The event runs through Sunday Feb. 8.
One of the biggest fish caught Saturday was a lake trout, which weighed in at nearly 14 lbs.
