The eldest member of the Hooksett community received Boston Post Cane Award
HOOKSETT — Sophie Dlugosz was presented with the Boston Post Cane Award and a Town of Hooksett pin by the town administrator.
Dlugosz had her children, grandchildren and many friends with her on Wednesday when she accepted this award. She turned 99-years-old on April 23 and has lived in Hooksett since 1941. She is the the eldest member of the Hooksett community.
The Boston Post Cane tradition dates back to the turn of the century when 700 canes were made for New England by the former Boston Post newspaper.
When Dlugosz received her award she said, “it’s wonderful to be surrounded by family and friends”. Her name is currently on a plaque in the lobby of the Hooksett Town Offices where the cane is displayed.
