Syringe, needle, knife found on Brentwood school playground raises concerns
BRENTWOOD — The discovery of a large knife, needle and syringe on a popular school playground has school officials worried about safety over the summer months.
According to seacoastonline.com, a staff member with the YMCA discovered the knife and drug paraphernalia along with empty carbon dioxide containers at the Swasey Central School playground on June 9. The discovery was immediately reported to police.
Superintendent Mike Morgan said he remains concerned about what will happen at the playground over the summer when there is far less supervision of the playground.
Over the summer, however, he is asking for the public’s help.
“It's a community resource ... I don't know, honestly how many of the local recreation programs use the school playgrounds during the summer … But it's the public that needs to help out more than anything. We’re asking people to go around and do spot checks,” he said.
