SWAT team, local authorities to practice high-level emergencies in Portsmouth

The Associated Press

PORTSMOUTH — SWAT teams, firefighters, police and other first responders are taking part in a large-scale regional training exercise in Portsmouth designed to test skills used in a high-level critical incident.

Authorities say people in some neighborhoods will hear loud noises during the exercise starting Friday morning, especially around the high school and the middle school. The noises are part of the training and are no cause for alarm.

The residents will be receiving a reverse 911 call reminder on Thursday.

People will see uniformed officers with training weapons and emergency response vehicles and equipment.
