SUV catches fire at Gulf station in Merrimack


MERRIMACK - An SUV caught fire near the gas pumps at the Merrimack Gulf station on Continental Boulevard on Monday afternoon, but it was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Merrimack Fire Rescue says the report came in around 1:30 p.m. The owner of the black sport utility vehicle said he was headed south on the Everett Turnpike and had gotten off at Exit 11 to fuel up. When he pulled into the gas station, he saw smoke billowing from the hood.

Firefighters ordered the fueling station shut down while they put out the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction of of the motor. There were no injuries and firefighters say they cleared the scene before 2 p.m.
