Suspicious New Hampton fire garners police investigation
NEW HAMPTON - New Hampton fire fighters arrived to 55 Main St. early Saturday morning where there was already a heavy police presence.
Just before 2:30 a.m., Fire Chief Michael Drake said New Hampton fire fighters responded to a fire at that address. Drake said when they arrived on scene, there was a heavy police presence that included both state and local police officials.
Drake said the officials were looking for Carl Grace, a person of interest involved in a domestic dispute that happened in Hill earlier this morning.
At the time of the fire, there were no occupants. One state trooper kicked a door open so a dog was able to get out of the building.
Drake said one fire fighter was transported to Spiral Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for heat related injuries.
The building was under construction, and, because of the renevations, it was difficult to put the fire out. There is heavy smoke, heat and water damage to the property.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
