Suspect steals wallet from NH man with ALS at RadioShack in Plaistow

PLAISTOW — A New Hampshire man with ALS had his wallet stolen from in front of him at a Plaistow Radioshack on Tuesday afternoon.

Martin Wallem was in the store with his caretaker when his wallet was stolen off the counter, police said. Police said the suspect concealed the wallet with loose papers.

The suspect has been described as a white man with brown hair, a mustache and beard stubble. He was wearing a blue shirt at the time of the incident.

“Most people in this world are good,” wife Cara Wallem said. “This guy just took advantage of his situation.”

Wallem was diagnosed with ALS 15 years ago and is unable to speak or move. Before Wallem was diagnosed, he was an avid glacier climber and outdoor enthusiast. He still stays active through adaptive sports and does many speaking engagements at local schools with his wife.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (603) 382-6816.
