Survey shows 1 person in 3 has no retirement savings

CHANGING FAMILIES - One in three Americans has nothing saved for retirement according to gobankingrates.com.
Here are some their other findings:

  • 56% of Americans have less than $10,000 saved for retirement
  • Women are 27% more likely than men to have no retirement savings
  • 75% of people over 40 are behind on savings for retirement

The survey asked 4,506 respondents, “By your best estimate, how much money do you have saved for retirement?" including seven answer options. Responses were as follows:

  • Less than $10K—23%
  • $10K to $49K—10%
  • $50K to $99K—8%
  • $100K to $199K—8%
  • $200K to $299K—5%
  • $300K or more—13%
  • I don’t have retirement savings—33%
