Sunday River Ski Resort to open Monday, second-earliest opening in 20 years
NEWRY, Maine – Listen up, snow bunnies!
A popular mountain is hoping to start pumping snow this weekend if temperatures dip low enough.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Sunday River Ski Resort plans to welcome skiers and snowboarders next Monday, October 19 – which will be the second-earliest opening in 20 years.
Wednesday, Sunday River Ski Resort posted a photo of the mountain’s fall foliage.
One person asked how the mountain can open when foliage has not even reached its peak. The response? “The power of snowmaking.”
The resort said on the website, “Nobody makes snow like Sunday River, and every year we open as early as we can.”
Not all of the trails will be open Monday. For a complete list, visit the Sunday River Mountain Report.
