Sunapee man survives violent late-night break-in and robbery

Spec Bowers is the owner of George Mill Cottages in Sunapee. He tells NH1 News he’s lucky to be safe thanks to quick thinking and police.

"Sometimes the bad guy kills the good guy when they're all done but I didn't really think that was going to happen,” said Bowers describing a violent robbery that happened at his home early Monday morning.

Sunapee police arrested Brandon Green saying that Green broke into Bowers’ bedroom while he was asleep. Bowers says Green tied him up.

“He went over to the bedside table and pulled out the clock radio and the lamp to tear off the electric cord to tie myself up. He didn’t have rope, he had wire,” said Bowers.

Bowers said Green was looking for money and left him with 4 staples in his head.

Bowers said he was gagged, had his head covered and was hit on the head with a gun.

“To me, anybody that knows Spec, I don't know if you're any kind of a human being you would never do anything to hurt him,” said neighbor and friend, Lynn McJones.

Vacationers arrived shortly after police this morning.

"When we got here we saw probably about 10 to 12 stitches going up his head. It looked like a deep cut there was still some dried up blood so it was pretty fresh,” said John Elworthy of Braintree, M.A. Elworthy and his friends are renting the cottage where the incident happened for the week.

Green is being held on 100,000 dollars cash bail. There is no word on if his wife will be able to continue living at the cottages.
