Strafford woman died after weather conditions caused her kayak to capsize

STRAFFORD — A woman kayaking on Bow Lake lost her life Friday after capsizing because of the rough conditions.

A 62-year-old Strafford woman, whose name has not been released, was kayaking on Bow Lake Friday around 2 p.m.

State police dispatch received a call about the distressed kayaker in the middle of the lake.

Emergency personnel from nine different agencies responded including three rescue boats.

Despite wearing a life jacket, the woman was found dead about 2 hours after the original 911 call.

Police believe a combination of the 20-25 mph winds, 2.5 foot swells and water temperature lead to the outcome.
