Stores celebrate free comic book day
Today is free comic book day. On the first Saturday in May stores around the world give away comic books.
Here is a brief history to celebrate:
The first American comic strip was "The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck" published in the 1840s.
Richard Outcault's "The Yellow Kid," published in 1895, began the Platinum Age of comics where word balloons and sequential stories were established as comics. Later, the first comic book published was Action Comics #1 starring Superman in 1938 and the first free comic book day was established on May 4, 2002. After that, the first Saturday in May became Free Comic Book Day.
