Steinhauser: Two influential N.H. newspapers back Kasich

NH1 Political Director -

CONCORD -- The Portsmouth Herald and Foster’s Daily Democrat, two of the leading newspapers in New Hampshire, Friday endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

“Ohio Gov. John Kasich, in our view, is the Republican candidate best qualified to lead our nation. Kasich is not the flashiest candidate in the field, but he has proven a highly effective leader both in Congress and as Ohio’s top executive,” wrote the editorial board of the Seacoast Media Group, which publishes the Herald and Foster’s as well as the Exeter News-Letter, Hampton Union, and Rochester Times.

“Of all the Republicans running for president, none can match Kasich’s record of accomplishment. His experience prepares him better than all other GOP primary candidates to be an effective and successful president,” the editorial board added.

The New Hampshire Union Leader, the state’s largest and most politically influential newspaper, in late November endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for the Republican nomination.
