Steinhauser: The money behind the NHGOPs Leadership Summit
NASHUA- The "First-in-the-Nation Leadership summit is not only the first major cattle call of Republican presidential candidates and likely contenders in New Hampshire, it's also the top fundraising event this year for the NHGOP.
A state party official put the haul from the two-day conference unofficially at $200,000, but cautioned that estimate could change when all proceeds are counted. The official described the confab as the most lucrative fundraising event ever for the state party.
NHGOP Chair Jennifer Horn told NH1 News Friday that the funds raised through the summit compliment strong fundraising over the past two years.
"The 2014 cycle was one of the most successful fundraising cycles we've had in about 15 years, and we are continuing on track to raise more than ample resources for everything that we need," Horn said.
Hours earlier, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley appeared critical of the NHGOP's fundraising efforts.
At an event with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democratic National Committee chair, Buckley said "they're just trying to raise money to keep the lights on at the Republican State headquarters. They're struggling."
