Steinhauser: O'Malley calls Trump a 'carnival barker'

MANCHESTER – Martin O’Malley energized a couple of hundred supporters Saturday morning, minutes before the start of the New Hampshire Democratic Party annual convention.

The former Maryland governor and Democratic presidential candidate spoke at a rally in Veterans Memorial Park, just a block away from the Verizon Arena, site of this year’s 2015 NHDP convention.

Many of the O’Malley supporters in the crowd were young, which the candidate acknowledged, saying “I look here and I see the faces of a lot a of people that represent the future of our country, not where we’ve been but where we are going.”

O’Malley also took a shot at Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump, saying “whatever the hate is that you hear from that carnival barker Donald Trump leading the other folks, that is not the future of our country.”

O’Malley is in the low single digits in polling of likely Democratic primary voters in the first-in-the-nation primary state, far behind Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
